Modern intensive agriculture does not allow enough time to carry out the humification process when the formation of humic substances takes place.  It does not return organic matter to the soil in the required amount. Organic carbon in the soil is decreasing as a basic parameter of soil fertility. We are noticing a decrease in soil microorganisms and overall life in the soil. The problem is that fertilizers do not solve the loss of organic matter or the loss of life in the soil. The change in soil structure leads not only to gradually lower soil fertility but also to its degradation and loss of soil water retention. In addition to this, farmers often struggle with nutrient leaching from their fields because arable soil has more trouble retaining nutrients and soil humus decreases. This not only causes inefficient use of fertilizers with financial implications but can also lead to contamination of water and the surrounding environment.
